Free AI Person Remover – Automatically delete people from photos

This tool detects people in the foreground and makes those pixels transparent while leaving the rest of the background as-is. It does not fill transparent areas with synthesized background. There is no “lasso one person” step—AI processes the foreground in one go. Several people are usually removed together; you cannot keep one person and delete only the others. No sign-up or extra software, and your image is not uploaded to our servers.

📋 How to Use

  1. Drag a PNG, JPG, or WEBP onto the upload area above, or click Select File.
  2. When the preview appears, click Remove Person. AI detects people (foreground) and makes those regions transparent. The rest of the background stays; transparent areas are not inpainted. You do not pick a specific person to remove.
  3. The first time, the AI model (~40 MB) downloads, so expect about 30–60 seconds. Later runs are usually faster.
  4. Click Download to save a PNG when you are happy with the result.

No login or payment. Processing happens only in your browser.

💡 Before & after examples

Before and after: person in front of the sea, person removal example
Example 1: A travel photo with someone by the ocean—when you want only the sea left and the person gone.
Before and after: removing a product while keeping the background
Example 2: When you want to keep the background and remove the product. Removed areas are transparent; rough edges may show.
Before and after: removing an animal from a photo
Example 3: When you want to remove an animal from the shot—foreground subjects other than people can be removed too.

✨ How it works and when to use it

On-device AI finds people in the foreground and sets those pixels to transparent (alpha) while leaving the background unchanged. We do not inpaint or synthesize background over the transparent regions. Useful when you want “people gone, scenery mostly intact” without manual erasing in Photoshop.

Simple backgrounds usually look cleaner next to transparent cutouts. Busy patterns (grids, leaves, crowds) can make transparent holes or edges more obvious. If a person covers most of the frame, little opaque background may remain.

What it does

  • Automatically detects foreground people—no manual mask to draw.
  • Removed regions are transparent. The checkerboard in the preview only indicates transparency.
  • Uses the same family of AI as Background Remover, but the goal is the opposite: remove people and keep the scene.

Typical uses: tourists in landmark shots, passers-by in product or lifestyle photos, social posts where you want only the location visible.

Good use cases

  • When you need to separate people from the background for further editing
  • When you need a cutout in Photoshop to work on the subject and background separately
  • When you want to blur only the background for an out-of-focus style effect
  • When you want to separate a foreground subject other than a person from the background

Limitations & tips

  • Because removed areas are transparent, messy backgrounds or jagged subject edges can leave obvious holes or borders. Plain backgrounds are easiest.
  • If a person is very large in the frame, you may only see a small strip of background left after removal.
  • You cannot remove one specific person and leave others, or keep one person and delete the rest. Multiple people are usually removed together.

Compared with other tools

Photoshop and similar tools offer fine control but take time to learn and may cost money. Services like remove.bg focus on background removal; our Background Remover tool does the same. This Person Remover page is for removing people and keeping the background, with no sign-up and browser-only processing so files are not sent to our servers.

Quality and speed vary by product. For print or large displays, zoom in and review once before final use.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is it really free?
Yes. This person remover is offered at no charge.
Q. Do I need to sign up or log in?
No. Use it directly on this page without email or social login.
Q. What do removed areas look like? Are they filled in?
Where people were becomes transparent. We do not fill those areas with fake background. Simple backgrounds look least distracting; complex scenes may show obvious transparent holes or rough edges.
Q. Which photos work best?
Photos where the background is simple and people are clearly separated from the scene behind them. Smaller transparent regions are usually easier on the eye.
Q. Why does processing take so long?
The first run downloads the AI model (~40MB). Later runs are faster. Higher resolution images take longer.
Q. What's the difference from Background Remover?
Background Remover keeps the subject and removes the background (often leaving transparency where the background was). Person Remover removes people so those areas become transparent while keeping the rest of the scene. Pick the tool that matches your goal.
Q. What if there are several people? Can I remove one person only?
Everyone detected as foreground is usually removed together. There is no option to select one person and leave others. For that kind of edit, use a full editor with layers.
Q. What format is the result saved in?
The result downloads as a transparent PNG — the format that supports alpha channel (transparency). If you need a white background instead, convert the PNG to JPG using our Image Converter; transparent areas will fill with white automatically.

🖼️ Upload above and download when the transparent cutout looks acceptable. Removed areas stay transparent—there is no inpainting. See the FAQ below.
